Description
The Glenfinnan Monument, built in 1814, is a tall column made of rubble, featuring a corbelled and crenellated wallhead. At the top, it is surmounted by a later bronze statue of a Highlander, sculpted by Greenshields. The monument has a battered base with a pulvinated string course and a slightly projecting corniced entrance porch that leads to an internal spiral stair. It is surrounded by an eight-sided rubble wall that is coped, which includes three later pedimented sections that contain inscriptions in English, Gaelic, and Latin.
