Description
Achranich Farmhouse, located on the Ardtornish Estate, was designed by Samuel Barham in 1880. This asymmetrical two-storey building features a rear U-plan court, with the entrance to the house on the west elevation and the entrance to the estate office on the east. The entire structure is finished in rendered concrete.
The manager's house has a nearly symmetrical three-bay arrangement of windows, with the central door positioned slightly off-centre. The long four-bay front elevation faces south, with a gabled wing that projects slightly at the southwest corner.
The estate office has an irregular four-bay elevation, with two bays located in the gable end. It features an off-centre door and some blind windows. A slated and glazed canopy extends above the ground floor windows, supported by wooden brackets, and encircles the building except on the north side. The windows include bipartites and tripartites with multi-pane glazing, and some windows have hoodmoulds. The gable ends are adorned with decorative bargeboards, and the building has corniced ridge stacks and slate roofs that project over the eaves.
