Description
Acharn Farmhouse, located on the Ardtornish Estate, was likely designed by Samuel Barham in 1892. This asymmetrical building features two stories and five bays. The exterior is made of concrete, rendered to resemble ashlar stone.
At the southwest corner, there is a wide projecting gabled bay that includes large two-light windows on both the ground and first floors. The entrance is situated in a re-entrant angle, with an additional entrance at the rear. The building has a prominent gabled dormer in the center that lights two rooms, while the west gable has blind windows on both floors. Some ground floor windows have pronounced hoodmoulds, and the glazing is multi-pane. The roof features two wide-corniced ridge stacks and is covered with slate, complete with overhanging eaves.
To the rear, there is a single-storey rectangular wash-house range that has an open central drying court. This structure is also rendered concrete and features an end stack and a slate roof.
