Description
Caolas Ferry House, located on the Ardtornish Estate, was designed by Samuel Barham in 1879. This single-storey, symmetrical house features five bays. The entrance is situated on the left side, with a former waiting room, while another entrance is on the right. The exterior is made of rendered concrete and faces west.
The house has a wide projecting bay window with a sloping slated roof, and the entrances are positioned in a re-entrant of this bay. Each entrance is flanked by tripartite windows, and there is a hoodmoulded window light on the north return gable. A similar window, which is blocked, is found in the south return gable beneath a slated canopy. The property includes multi-pane sash windows, decorative barge-boards with apex pendant finials, deep eaves supported by curved timber brackets, and a corniced central stack. The roof is covered with slate.
