Description
These are late 18th-century stables, restored in 1862 by Andrew Maitland following a fire. The stables are two storeys high and feature eleven bays, built of harled stone with contrasting painted ashlar margins. The outer bays are slightly projected and contain carriage houses with wide, round-headed entrances, located in bays 3 and 9. A further round-headed entrance, with a pedimented section, is in the centre bay, featuring a loft door and an oculus above. Small loft windows are visible at first floor level. The building has paired ridge stacks and a slender ridge cupola, topped by a piended slate roof. Forestairs lead to the loft at each gable. An advertisement for tenders appeared in the Inverness Advertiser on January 17, 1862.
