Description
This is a late 18th century, two-story and attic house with a three-bay design, situated at Mains of Balnagown, near Balnagown Castle. The house has lean-to extensions projecting from each gable. The walls are harled (roughcast) and feature ashlar (finely dressed stone) dressings and margins. The front door is centrally positioned, and the first-floor windows are slightly larger than those on the ground floor. Two bargeboarded dormers were added in the later 19th century. The windows contain 12 panes of glass each. A stairwell window is located at the rear of the building. Chamfered ashlar quoins (corner stones) are visible on the lean-to extensions. The gables have corniced (projecting decorative detail) end stacks, one of which has been renewed. The roof is covered with slate. The statutory address is Balnagown Farmhouse (at Balnagown Mains).
