Description

These entrance gates, dated 1807 and attributed to Robert Meikle, Mason, serve Balnagown Castle. The gates comprise two pairs of square gate piers constructed from ashlar stone. These piers feature fluted bands around the middle and square caps. The piers are connected by broached ashlar quadrants leading to similar end piers. The central pair of piers support cast-iron carriage gates, which are decorated with spearhead detailing, and matching flanking pedestrian gates. The gates open directly onto the A9 road.
