Description

This is a single-span rubble bridge, likely dating from the mid to later 18th century, situated at Latheronwheel Harbour, over the Burn of Latheronwheel. The bridge features a slightly hump-backed arch constructed of dressed rubble. It has no parapet. The approximate span is 48 feet. Locally known as “Wade’s bridge,” it currently carries a footpath and likely marks the route of an earlier road. This pre-dates the construction of the higher-level road built around 1810-15 by Telford as part of his Parliamentary road.
