Description
Southern House, at Cooper's Buildings in Latheronwheel, dates to around 1855. It is a two-storey, symmetrical pair of dwellings, originally intended as one building. The construction is of whitewashed rubble with tooled rubble dressings. The front features a pair of central doors, each flanked by a single window. Four windows are positioned on the first floor, and a single window is found on both the ground and first floors of the southwestern gable. The building has end chimney stacks and a slate roof. According to local historical records, Southern House was the second building to be constructed in Janestown, following the Latheronwheel Hotel.
