Description
Northern House, along with its companion dwelling, was built around 1855 as a pair of two-storey houses in Latheronwheel, specifically within the Janestown area of the village. The houses are symmetrical in design, with four bays each. They are constructed of whitewashed rubble stone with dressings of tooled rubble. The front facade features a pair of central doorways, each flanked by a single window. There are four windows on the first floor, and a single window on both the ground and first floors of the southwest-facing gable. Chimneys are located at each end of the building, and the roof is covered with slate. Local sources suggest Northern House was the second building to be erected in Janestown, following the construction of the Latheronwheel Hotel.
