Drummond Hill, Startherrick Road, Inverness

Drummond Hill, located on Startherrick Road in Inverness, is a large 2-storey, 5-bay symmetrical Italianate villa built around 1890. It is currently used for commercial purposes and features a piended roof, a prominent entrance, and ballustered aprons. The villa is constructed from pink sandstone with cream ashlar dressings, and it has a band and string course at the first floor, along with a bracketed eaves course.

The principal elevation faces south and includes a central single-leaf panelled door with a fanlight, which is set in a round-headed and keystoned arch. This arch is part of an advanced pilastered doorpiece that has a ballustered apron, with a bi-partite window above. The outer bays are slightly advanced and feature pilastered tripartite windows with carved friezes. The first floor has regular fenestration. On the north elevation, the slightly advanced outer bays include a central projecting bay window at ground level, with a ballustered balcony above. There is also a single-storey service wing to the east.

The windows are made of plate glass set in timber sash and case frames. The roof is covered with grey slate and has lead flashings, along with a series of coped wall-head, gable, and ridge stacks.

Inside, the villa has been modernised but still retains many original features, including an arcaded entrance hall, ornate fireplaces, and a mosaic in the vestibule.
