Joss Street air raid shelter

The Joss Street air raid shelter is a former communal surface air raid shelter with an adjoining plant room, built during the Second World War. It is situated at the eastern end of Joss Street in Invergordon.

This building is constructed from brick and concrete and features a flat, split-level roof. It measures approximately 14 meters in length and about 4 meters wide. There are entrances at both ends of the southern wall, leading into the western and eastern sections of the building. Internally, the western 9 meters of the structure serves as the air raid shelter, while the eastern section contains the plant room. The shelter follows a standard design for a double shelter, with a single dividing wall running lengthwise, where the bases of benches can still be observed. At the eastern end, there are two smaller rooms; one likely contained a chemical toilet, while the other was used for shelter equipment. The interior of the former plant room was inaccessible, so it is unclear what features may remain there.
