Granary And Cottage, Mains Of Lethen

The Granary and Cottage at Mains of Lethen is an early 18th century building that faces west. It is a two-storey structure with a wide three-bay layout, featuring a single-storey, single-bay addition on the south gable. Attached to this is a further single-storey, three-bay cottage with a central door, creating a continuous range on a south sloping site. The building includes some late 19th century windows and doorways, particularly on the rear east elevation.

Constructed from rubble with ashlar dressings, it features tooled late 19th century architraves. There is a stone forestair leading to the first-floor entrance in the south outer bay of the main block, along with a moulded eaves cornice. A former string or band course across the west gable has been removed, and the original windows have simple chamfers. There is some evidence of blocked windows, and a late 19th century chimney stack is located at the centre of the west gable of the main block, while an early 18th century coped stack is found on the south gable of the cottage, which also retains original small windows. The building features crowsteps, cavetto skewputts, and local slate roofs.
