Description

The Former School House at Murroes Primary School is a two-storey building dating from the later 19th century, designed in a T-plan layout. It is constructed of snecked rubble with stugged and margined ashlar dressings and features a slate roof. The windows are a mix of plate glass and two-pane sash and case styles, with chamfered jambs. The gables have deep eaves with plain bargeboards, exposed posts and ties, and decorative cast-iron finials.

On the south elevation, there is a door and window leading to a platform-roofed porch at the centre, with an additional window to the left and another above the porch on the first floor. The gable on the right side is advanced and has a bipartite window on the ground floor and a single window above it.

The east elevation features a slightly advanced gable at the centre with a single window on both the ground and first floors, and a coped gable stack with original cans that rise through the eaves.

The west gable has a bipartite window on the ground floor and a single window on the first floor.

On the north elevation, there is a door leading to a single-storey lean-to in the centre re-entrant, a glass brick window to the right, and windows on the first floor. There is a shouldered wallhead stack to the right, with the upper part rebuilt in brick. An advanced single-storey coal cellar block to the right includes a door, a window, and a coal opening, topped with a half-piended roof. The gable on the far left is advanced and has a window on both the ground and first floors.

The interior has not been seen. Surrounding the property is a rubble-coped boundary wall made of rubble on the south, east, and west sides.
