Description
Gagie Home Farm features an E-plan steading constructed over different periods. The northwest, southeast, and central ranges date from around the mid-18th century, possibly incorporating some fragments from the mid-17th century. The northwest and central ranges were partly demolished and renewed in the mid-20th century, while the northeast range was built in the early 19th century. The structure is made of rubble and Aberdeen bond masonry, with droved and margined ashlar dressings. The 20th-century alterations primarily consist of brick and harl, and the roofs are covered with piended grey slate and corrugated asbestos.
The northeast range includes a cartshed, granary, and threshing mill. It features a modern corrugated metal lean-to at the center, three rectangular-headed cart-arches, and a window on the left. There is a pend arch with a sliding door at the far left, an inner division wall, and a cobbled floor, along with three boarded openings above. The return gable on the left has partly rounded angles and a depressed-arch carriage entrance with checked margins and voussoirs, along with a mannered panel above that has three blocked diamond-shaped apertures, possibly from a former dovecot, with one remaining door. The threshing mill on the right has had its machinery and floor removed and features an enlarged full-height entrance, a door on the left, and some blocked and boarded openings on the first floor, with later timber additions to the right. The return gable on the right has paired doors at the center and a hayloft door above with a gable dormer head.
The court elevation of the northeast range has been altered, with some boarded apertures on the first floor. The left side has a brick cattle court with an open slate roof, while the right side has a rubble cattle court with an asbestos roof.
The southeast range has a plain external elevation with a door at the center and a ridge ventilator. Its court elevation features a cart entrance on the right with two doors, four other doors, and two windows on the left. The byre has a cobbled and slab floor, stone trevises, and a timber heck.
The northwest range has been altered and rebuilt. The remaining bay on the left, likely a former hen house, has a narrow round-headed unglazed window and an enlarged hen-hole. The court elevation features a door at the center and a window on the right.
