Description
The Coach House and Stable Block at Gagie House, dated 1759, features an additional coach house to the east and an extension to the stables from around 1800. The roof was raised, and alterations were made to the south elevation, with a fleche added by France Smoor in 1982. This single-storey, elongated L-plan structure consists of a pair of coach houses and a stable block, built from rubble sandstone masonry with ashlar dressings and a slate roof.
On the north elevation, there are two coach houses recessed on the left, each featuring a round-headed carriage arch with a mask keystone and a datestone at the right gable. The advanced block on the right has four doors and five windows placed asymmetrically, along with a blocked segmental-arched entrance on the left return gable. The right return gable includes a stone slab water container and an aperture at the apex adorned with a triple heart motif dated 1982. At the center, there is a hexagonal fleche topped with a finialled pyramidal roof.
The south elevation showcases paired gables of the coach houses on the right, with apertures at the apex. The main block is recessed on the left, where the roof slopes down to a rustic timber wall, concealing various openings. A linking section is located on the right, and a lean-to on the far left was rebuilt in 1982.
Inside, the stable and byre feature stone trevises and a vaulted concrete block ceiling, also by France Smoor, from 1982.
