Description
Knockie Lodge Hotel is a symmetrical house from the mid to late 18th century, featuring two storeys and an attic, with three bays facing southeast. The building has extensive later additions that create a U-shaped courtyard, which is connected at the ground floor by a lean-to verandah that extends across the front of the original house. The exterior is white harled with contrasting painted ashlar margins.
The former entrance, located in the advanced and gabled center bay, has been blocked to create a window, while a later entrance is found to the left. There are substantial additions to the southwest gable from various dates. The southwest-facing elevation features deep, three-window projecting bowed bays in the outer bays that rise to full height under piended slated roofs, linked at the ground floor by the verandah. The glazing is varied, primarily consisting of sash and case windows, with some casements. There are also four della Robbia style plaques set into the walls beneath the front verandah. The building has ridge, end, and wallhead coped stacks, all topped with slate roofs.
Inside, some fielded panelled doors remain in the earliest part of the house. The current dining and drawing rooms showcase panelled dados, broken pedimented doorpieces, chimneypieces, bookcases, and panelled doors, all dating from around 1900.
