Description
The White House, located at North Back Dykes in Errol, is a house built in the earlier to mid 19th century. It is a two-storey and attic structure with three bays, featuring a pilastered and corniced doorcase and a rectangular courtyard at the rear. The exterior is harled with painted margins, and there is a later ashlar bay.
On the northwest elevation, there are steps leading up to a broad two-leaf panelled timber door with a plate glass fanlight above it. To the left, there is a window above the door and additional windows on each floor. To the right, a full-height canted bay features wide tripartite windows on each floor.
The southwest elevation displays asymmetrical fenestration with a gabled bay on the left and a piended bay to the right, which is behind a single-storey wing that has a half-timbered gablehead and various openings extending to the right.
The southeast elevation, facing the courtyard, is symmetrical with three bays. It has taller windows on the first floor and a small half-timbered gablehead that projects at the center of the roof ridge. There is a low flat-roofed projection to the left, and the courtyard is flanked by single-storey projections with gabled outer bays and a link wall that has pyramidally-coped square-section gatepiers at the center.
The windows throughout the house feature a mix of 4-pane, 8-pane, 12-pane, and plate glass glazing patterns in timber sash and case frames. The coped harled stacks have a full complement of polygonal cans. The eaves overhang with plain bargeboarding, brackets, and decorative bracing adds to the architectural detail.
The interior was not seen in 2000. Additionally, there is a walled garden that is rectangular in plan, constructed of coped rubble, and features slender square-section pyramidally-coped piers.
