Description

The monument to the First Duke of Sutherland, designed by Sir Francis Chantrey, was erected in 1837. It stands on Beinn A' Bhragaidh and comprises a colossal statue of the Duke upon an octagonal plinth, which itself sits on a square ashlar pedestal. The monument is a dominant landmark visible above Golspie. Further information can be found in Robert Gunnis’ Dictionary of British Sculptors.
