Description

Drummuie House is a circa 1809 two-storey range, comprising a central three-bay house with a central door, and slightly set-back two-storey, two-bay flanking wings. The central house is constructed of harl-pointed rubble with ashlar dressings. The doorway is masked by a later rustic wooden porch. Thick wooden mullions frame the upper first-floor windows of the central block, which contain 16 panes of glass; elsewhere windows have 12 panes. Rusticated quoins are present, along with an eaves band to the centre block, corniced end stacks, and a slate roof.

The interior is plain, featuring simple decorative plaster friezes in the ground floor rooms of the central portion, dating to the early 19th century.

Built by Captain Robert Sutherland (circa 1820), Drummuie House was described as "a handsome and commodious house.” It was for many years the residence of the Headmaster of the Golspie Technical School, built nearby in 1903. As of the time of listing, the house was empty. James Loch's An Account of the Improvements on the Estate of Lord Stafford (1820), appendix p19, provides further details.
