Description

Mealbane is a single-story, three-bay cottage, built around 1860 by A & W Reid of Elgin and Inverness. A further bay to the right was originally a baker's shop. The cottage is constructed of harl-pointed rubble with tooled rubble dressings. The front features a central door leading to the house, flanked by small windows with four panes of glazing. A wide shop window with horizontal glazing in casements is present. A blocked door is located in the return gable of the former shop. Coped end and ridge stacks and a slate roof with projecting eaves are visible. A former bakery at the rear has been converted into a garage. Undated drawings relating to the property are among the Guisachan Estate plans. The Moray District Record Office, Forres, holds further details referenced as DAWP 1232.
