Former Stables, Tomich Hotel, Tomich

This is a pair of buildings, former stables and a post office, constructed in 1865 by A & W Reid of Elgin and Inverness. The buildings are located on the grounds of the Tomich Hotel.

The hotel's former stables are an asymmetrical, two-storey gabled building constructed of rubble stone with contrasting, dressed red ashlar details. The front entrance is near the centre of the building, but is slightly obscured by a gabled, rustic timber porch. To the left of the porch is a slightly projecting gabled bay, with a two-light window on the ground floor and a three-light window above. The rear garden front has four bays, with a single canted bay window on the ground floor and a slightly advanced gabled bay to the left. Some first-floor windows project as gabled dormers. The roof is slate, with coped end and ridge stacks. A small, single-storey rubble lean-to projecting from the north-east gable houses the post office, also constructed with dressed rubble margins. The stables themselves are a rectangular rubble building with a gable facing the road; a modern "up and over" garage door now occupies the former entrance, which originally had a segmental arch. A stable entrance is located in the long return elevation.

A short coped rubble wall, with a double gateway flanked by simple square rubble gate piers with shallow pyramidal caps, connects the post office to the stables. Records relating to the buildings can be found at Moray District Record Office, Forres, reference DAWP 1232/29-31.
