Description

Tarland, located on Albert Street in Nairn, features a house designed by W R Davidson, built between 1906 and 1907. This two-storey and attic "Butterfly" plan house includes a single-storey and attic wing on the northeast side, all finished with harling and ashlar dressing.

The main "butterfly" facade showcases a central gabled bay that rises three storeys, featuring a canted oriel window with a lozenge panel below on the first floor. This bay projects forward, creating a cantilevered hood over the front door. The asymmetrical north garden elevation has a central entrance that is recessed under a wide semi-elliptical arch, with low benches on either side of the door. To the east, there is a small single-storey canted bay window. The house also has flat-roofed dormers, two of which on the north elevation have been enlarged and fitted with modern glazing.

The windows are multi-pane sash and casement types, and the chimneys are adorned with rubble bands and clustered chimney pots. The house features deep eaves and a bell-cast slate roof. Additionally, there is a harled screen wall to the west, topped with a stone cope and ball finials.
