Description
170-174 Trongate in Glasgow is a four-storey corner warehouse building constructed between 1856 and 1860, likely featuring a cast-iron frame. The exterior is finished in painted ashlar, with modern shops occupying the ground floor. The building has a regular four-bay elevation facing Trongate and a five-bay elevation on Hutcheson Street. Pilasters separate the bays, with giant pilasters extending through the first and second floors. Each bay contains a tripartite window with thin pilaster mullions, primarily made of plate glass, with some featuring top hopper openings. The design includes moulding string courses and cornices between the floors, a deep dentilled eaves cornice, and a parapet with die piers.
