Sentinel Works, 61-89 Jessie Street, Glasgow

Sentinel Works, located at 61-89 Jessie Street in Glasgow, is an early ferro-concrete pattern store designed by Archibald Leitch, an engineer with Brand and Lithgow, and built between 1903 and 1904 for Alley and MacLellan, engineers. The building stands four storeys tall and features a layout of 12 by 3 bays. Its walls are made of concrete panels, and it has large metal-framed windows. The entrance bay is off-centre and includes a wide door with three tall lights above, which was added around 1930. The building is topped with a classical cornice and has a flat roof.

At the rear, the structure is similar in design, featuring a fire escape that cantilevers out on ornate cast-iron brackets.

Inside, the space is free of columns, with the load being entirely supported by the externally expressed frame. The top floor includes additional concrete cross pieces to accommodate the shelves of the pattern store.
