Description

James Carruthers, 1931. Art Deco, 5-storey commercial

building. 5 bays arranged 1-3-1. Faced with polished

ashlar, metal panels between floors in inner bays. Metal

casement windows. Ground floor altered, traces of marble

shop fascia.

Giant order of pilasters rising from 1st to 4th floor

dividing bays. Geometric metal windows with leaded

margins. Metal panels between floors with sheild panel

and Greek key frieze.

Pseudo-eaves gallery, bold cornice with giant metopes.

Parapet, raised with sculpted panels over outer bays.

INTERIOR: Art Deco shop fittings at No 19 Gordon Street;

bronze faced lift.
