Gardner's Warehouse, 36 Jamaica Street, Glasgow

Gardner's Warehouse, located at 36 Jamaica Street in Glasgow, is an impressive 4-storey cast-iron warehouse building designed by John Baird I and R McConnel, an iron founder, between 1855 and 1856. The structure features a Venetian style with a layout of 4 by 3 bays, each bay containing 5 arched lights with panelled spandrels. These bays are separated by continuous panelled pilaster strips that have discs at each floor and clasp at the angles.

The ground floor has a shop front with frieze lettering, topped by a mutule cornice that serves as the base for a blind balustrade die parapet on the first floor. Above this, there is a frieze with lettering and a dentil cornice. The second floor showcases a geometric blind die balustrade and a dentil cornice, while the third floor features a blind balustrade with advanced arches resting on diminutive capitals. The main entablature includes a panel and disc frieze, a console bracketted cornice, and coupled pilasters topped with a mutule cornice.

Inside, the warehouse has simple cast-iron columns and a decorative wrought-iron lift shaft.
