Description

John Baird I and R McConnel iron founder, 1855-56. Venetian

4-storey cast-iron warehouse building. 4 x 3 bays with 5

arched lights with panelled spandrels to each bay. Separated

by continuous panelled pilaster strips with discs at each

floor, clasping at angle. Ground floor shop front with frieze

lettering; mutule cornice forming base for 1st floor blind

balustrade die parapet, frieze with lettering, dentil

cornice; 2nd floor geometric blind die balustrade, dentil

cornice; 3rd floor blind balustrade, advanced arches on

diminutive capitals; main entablature, panel and disc frieze,

console bracketted cornice, coupled above pilasters, mutule

cornice.

INTERIOR: simple cast-iron columns. Decorative wrought-iron

lift shaft.
