Description
24 Commercial Road is a three-storey, palazzo-style warehouse built in 1856. It features a three-by-seven bay layout with round-arched windows and a consoled balcony on the main elevation, topped by a piended roof. The building is constructed from finely jointed coursed stugged sandstone, with projecting ashlar quoins and margins. The principal (north) elevation has a projecting cornice course at the first storey, a string course at the second storey, and a moulded eaves course. The windows have regular fenestration with margined openings across all floors.
The main (north) elevation has three bays, with an entrance at the centre and a scroll-consoled balustraded balcony above. The round-arched windows are adorned with prominent keystones featuring saltires. The side elevations include single and paired metal wall ties at the first and second storeys. The east elevation has a round-arched opening to the left (now a window), an architraved entrance to the right, and a metal fire escape staircase leading to the upper floor.
The principal elevation features vertically sliding sash and case windows, with eight-pane glazing in fixed lights and top hoppers on the side elevations. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there are cast-iron rainwater goods. The interior was not seen in 2006.
