Description

Ozalid's, located at 16 Mcphater Street in Glasgow, is a warehouse designed by William James Anderson between 1892 and 1895. This four-storey building features an iron frame and is clad in concrete, showcasing an individualistic Italianate style. The façade facing Mcphater Street has eight bays, while the flank on Dunblane Street has three bays. The outer bays are taller and more elaborately detailed, with painted rendered walling.

On the Mcphater Street elevation, the tallest bay is at the extreme right, featuring a pedimented entrance with a balcony above the second floor and a large semi-circular window on the third floor, flanked by blind oculi. Above this, there are three small lights in a dwarf gallery. The remaining seven bays have a ground floor characterized by wide pilasters or columns that divide the bays, which include partly glazed sections with timber mullions, transoms, and small pane glazing. The first floor has bipartite windows, while the second floor features thermal windows. The pilasters divide the first-floor windows, which support moulded archivolts over arched windows on the second floor. The third floor has smaller single and bipartite lights, all of which are sash and case with small pane glazing.

The Dunblane Street elevation consists of three bays, with the right two bays serving as the main façade. The entrance bay to the left is plainer and taller, featuring a corbelled out detail at the first floor that creates a tower effect. The design includes a cornice over the ground floor that forms the cills for the third floor, a heavy eaves cornice, and a scalloped embattled parapet.
