Description
77 Clouston Street, built around 1865, is a four-storey and basement tenement featuring Wilsonesque architectural details. The building has an irregular arrangement of windows, including two canted windows and five blank inner windows on each floor, along with three additional bays that have flat windows and one canted window to the west. The basement is constructed of rockfaced sandstone, while the upper levels are made of ashlar stone, with a channelled design at the ground level. The roof is covered with slate.
The main entrance includes two tripartite doors, with No. 75 featuring a simple door design. There is a cornice above the ground floor openings and a string course at the first floor level. The string course steps over the first floor windows, and a continuous bracket cornice runs over the five inner and two western simple windows, with rosettes placed between them. The second floor features a string arched design over similarly positioned windows, adorned with shell heads and rosettes in the spandrels. A cill course is present at the third floor, with the cornice interrupted by the window heads. The building also has steep facetted roofs over the canted windows and good cast-iron railings surrounding the basement area.
