Description

Probably Alex Petrie, circa 1897. Reconstruction and additions, William Barclay 1937. Free classical, symmetrical 6-storey hotel with mainly modern shops at ground floor, public house at No 316 with original arched fascia. 6-bays, 12-window elevation above 2nd floor. Polished red ashlar, channelled at 1st floor.

Sash and case windows in architraves.

1st floor windows 3-light set in Venetian arched recesses, linked by impost band. Giant slim Corinthian pilasters dividing bays at 2nd and 3rd floor. 2nd floor cill band, pierced die parapet with ball finial in outer bays. 3rd floor cill band, geometric frieze.

4th and 5th floors as 2nd and 3rd without parapets.

Plain frieze. Dentil cornice. Die parapet with 4 corniced wallhead stacks breaking through. End stacks.

PUBLIC HOUSE INTERIOR: stylised columned interior. Carved timber gantry.
