Description

This building, located at 53, 55, 57, and 59 Miller Street in Glasgow, dates back to 1874 and is a four-storey and basement, seven-bay commercial structure designed in an eclectic style with a symmetrical facade. It features grey ashlar stone, which is painted at the ground level, along with some mock gilding.

The entrances are situated in the outer and central bays of the pilastered ground floor. The outer bay entrances are topped with stilted heads and boldly moulded segmental arches, which are fronted by a columned doorpiece adorned with urns. The windows have lipped lintels and rosettes above them. The first floor bays are divided by pilasters, with pairs of pilasters leading to the central bay, which is enhanced by elaborate carvings on the capitals that support the cornice. The outer bays contain pilastered bipartite windows with pediments. The second floor features corniced windows with decoratively lugged architraves, while the third floor windows are topped with lipped hoodmoulds. A bracketed cornice with a parapet is present over the outer bays, along with a segmental pediment and two stacks at the center.

The return elevation to the south is constructed of brick and includes sash and case windows. There are also two-leaf iron gates leading to the outer entrances.
