Description

The Statue of Queen Victoria in George Square, Glasgow, was created by Baron Carlo Marochetti before 1854. This bronze equestrian statue is mounted on a grey granite base and a pink granite pedestal. The pedestal features attached corner cast bronze columns with foliate capitals and an acanthus band course below. Each side of the pedestal has bronze pictorial relief panels that depict scenes from the life of Queen Victoria. There is a wreath on the bronze plaque at the front inscribed with 'VR', and a declaration on the rear panel that reads 'In Commemoration of Her Majesty's visit to Glasgow, 14th August 1849'. The pedestal is topped with an egg and dart cornice.
