Description

The Statue of Queen Victoria, located in Victoria Square, St. Helens, was erected in 1906 and designed by G. Frampton. It stands on a stone plinth with canted angles and a similar base. A bronze plaque on the base notes the date of erection, while another plaque on the plinth reads "VICTORIA/1837-1901". The bronze statue depicts the seated queen on a throne, adorned with elaborate Art Nouveau finials. At the back of the throne, there is a small statue of St. George. The figure of Victoria is finely detailed and resembles another statue of her in Leeds, created by the same sculptor.
