Description

The Queen Victoria Statue, dated 1905, is located in West Bank Park, York. It was sculpted by GW Milburn of York and is made of white marble on a red sandstone base. The statue is life-size and depicts Queen Victoria seated, holding a sceptre, orb, and crown, although the nose is now missing. The base has a rectangular plan with concave sides. The front of the base is inscribed with the words: "ERECTED BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION... QUEEN VICTORIA....BORN 1819. ASCENDED THE THRONE 1837. DIED 1901." Additionally, the left side features a panel carved with the shield of arms of the City of York.
