Janitor's Lodge, Springburn Nursery School, 48 Gourlay Street, Glasgow

The Janitor's Lodge at Springburn Nursery School, located at 48 Gourlay Street in Glasgow, is a surviving remnant of a former pair of school blocks designed by David Thomson between 1873 and 1875. The building features a long, two-storey front with outer gables and a large wing that is asymmetrically placed, linked to a near-centre gabled bay that may have originally included a belfry. The windows are mainly segmental-headed, either single or three-light, with some featuring hood-moulds and an original horizontal glazing pattern. The exterior is constructed of stugged ashlar with polished dressings, and all roofs are slated.

To the southeast, there is a single-storey Janitor's Lodge, which has a plain street elevation and is presumably also designed by Thomson. The block to the northwest, designed by Thomson and Menzies in 1894-1895, was demolished in 1991. Additionally, there are stone-built playground walls with raised coping at the gateways to Gourlay Street.
