Description
The Martyrs' Monument, located in Sighthill Cemetery on Springburn Road in Glasgow, was erected in 1847 through public subscription to honor John Baird and Andrew Hardie, who were executed in Stirling in September 1820 for their fight for freedom. This classical monument features a tall pedestal with a bellcast cap that supports a draped urn, all standing on a raised plinth approximately 5 meters high, made of grey sandstone. Each face of the plinth has inscribed panels, and one side of the pedestal showcases a relief sculpture depicting a classical scene.
