Description

Dated 1914. 3-storey shipyard design offices built for Alexander

Stephens of Linthouse. Reinforced-concrete-framed with red

brick walling; frame uprights treated as giant pilaster

strips, with cornice above ground floor, main cornice

with frieze; flat roof, wall-head balustrade with

intermediate piers. Street elevation divided into 7 3-

window bays (3-bay flanks).

Offices in 3 south-most bays, larger windows in other

bays for workshops; entrance in 3rd bay, with

contrasting rendered panel, corniced door with

sidelights, fanlight over cornice, cartouche with date.

Multi-paned windows all original.

Modern glazed stair tower added to N in late 1990's.
