Glasgow Herald Building, 63-69 Buchanan Street, Glasgow

The Glasgow Herald Building, located at 63-69 Buchanan Street in Glasgow, was designed by James Sellars of Campbell Douglas and Sellars in 1879. This four-storey and attic commercial building features a modern ground floor. It has three main bays with two narrower outer bays above.

The mezzanine level includes an arched head above the ground floor doorpiece that projects into the space, along with panels depicting putti in relief holding a newspaper. A striking feature of the building is the giant order of Corinthian columns that rise through the first and second floors, with a recessed central bay flanked by fluted columns. The outer main bays are slightly canted. The third floor has narrow bays that are set back behind a balustrade adorned with statuary. Additionally, there are three square projecting windows in the outer main bays, each topped with aediculed dormers above.
