Cabinet Works, 53 Kent Road, Glasgow

The Cabinet Works at 53 Kent Road in Glasgow is a building designed by James Sellars of Campbell Douglas and Sellars, constructed between 1870 and 1873. Originally a factory, it has been converted into flatted housing and stands four storeys tall with a sunk basement. The facade features 19 unequal bays arranged in a 3-13-3 configuration, with three return bays to the east and west that are designed as pavilions, echoing the window arrangement found on Kent Road.

The outer bays are raised and include a shallow recessed three-bay section on the second floor, which has a three-light pilastered mullioned window flanked by single lights in the outer bays. The windows on the ground and first floors are plain, while the second floor features an architraved arched window adorned with paterae spandrels and a dwarf pilastrade in the frieze.

In the central section, the windows are paired with pilaster mullions on the second floor, which also has a cornice. The third floor is decorated with 13 lunettes. The building has a plain eaves entablature, parapets at the ends, and a hipped slate roof. Additionally, there are geometric cast-iron railings.
