Description

John Baird, 1851. Boldly detailed, late classical

commercial building. 3-storeys, 2-bays, painted ashlar.

Modern shop to ground floor; 1st floor windows

pilastered, 2nd with eared, ramped architraves; each

window 2-light with central slender cast-iron colonnette;

elaborate consoles support cornices, breaking forward

over 1st floor pilasters, rosettes in lintel frieze to

1st floor windows; anthemion and scroll panel below 2nd

floor windows. Entablature with wreaths in frieze;

formerly bearing pierced parapet with acroteria over

parapet dies; only outer dies remain.

Plate-glass and 6-pane sash and case windows.
