64 Buchanan Street, Glasgow

64 Buchanan Street in Glasgow is a late classical commercial building designed by John Baird in 1851. It stands three stories tall and has two bays, constructed of painted ashlar. The ground floor features a modern shop front, while the first floor showcases pilastered windows. The second floor windows are adorned with eared, ramped architraves, and each window consists of two lights with a central slender cast-iron colonnette. Elaborate consoles support the cornices, which project over the pilasters on the first floor. The lintel frieze above the first floor windows is decorated with rosettes, and there are anthemion and scroll panels below the second floor windows. The building has an entablature featuring wreaths in the frieze and previously had a pierced parapet with acroteria, though only the outer dies remain today. The windows are fitted with plate glass and six-pane sash and case designs.
