Description
The cast iron fountain in Alexandra Park, Glasgow, was created by Walter Macfarlane & Co at the Saracen Foundry and is inscribed with the foundry's name. It was originally made for the 1901 Glasgow Empire Exhibition. The fountain features high-quality sculptural detail, including a low outer basin and a central plinth. At the foot of the plinth are four seated figures, and the open top is designed as a version of the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates, with a small basin raised above it.
