Description

The bridge over the River Eden on Pitscottie Road in Cupar dates from the early 19th century. It features a segmental masonry arch with a span of over 50 feet, characterized by alternately raised voussoirs and spear-head railings along the parapet. An interesting widening was added around 1850 on the downstream side, which includes a skew iron rib arch with open-grid spandrels cast in three pieces, flush on the outer face. The roadway is supported by white brick jack arches resting on cast-iron beams that span the triangular area between the original arch and the iron rib arch.
