Description
Circa 1851. 2-storey 6-bay U-plan mirrored double villa. Coursed ashlar to principal elevation, predominantly squared and snecked tooled sandstone to other elevations. Canted bay windows, hoodmoulds, advanced corbelled gabled dormers, some timber bargeboarding with finials, overhanging eaves, chamfered openings.
S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: (No 7) near-central entrance door with advanced gable with full height tripartite canted bay to left.
To right, single bay section with advanced corbelled dormer breaking eaves at 1st floor. No 9, mirror image of No 7.
W ELEVATION: now 4-bay, to right 2-bay section with advanced corbelled dormers at 1st floor (openings to outer bay blind). To left, modern 2-bay piended roof section with single storey addition to left including garage.
E ELEVATION: 3-bay, to left 2-bay section with advanced corbelled dormers at 1st floor (openings to outer bay blind). Slightly recessed single bay section to right.
No 9, predominantly 8-pane timber sash and case glazing. No 7, predominantly modern glazing. Graded grey slates. Large ridge stack at division of properties, shaped and corbelled at wallhead stacks to W and E.
INTERIOR: (No 9). 1st floor drawing room with grey veined marble fire surround. Coombed ceiling with elaborate deep plasterwork in coffered pattern. No 7 not seen (2004).
BOUNDARY WALL: high rubble coped wall to W, N and E. To S, low section of rubble wall with flat coping.
