Boundary Wall And Gate Piers, Castlefield, Castlebank Road, Cupar

The boundary wall and gate piers at Castlefield on Castlebank Road in Cupar date from the earlier to mid 19th century and are constructed from rubble sandstone. The wall features semicircular coping and includes a toll post and gate piers.

On the south side, there is a chamfered stone toll post embedded in the boundary wall, which rises almost to the full height of the wall. To the west, there is a pair of octagonal corniced ashlar gate piers with a base course and decorative finials, set into a bowed section of the wall. This area has been altered to accommodate a later gate.

The west section has been modified to create an entrance to a modern house, featuring a blocked opening and a later lower bowed entrance with simple square piers to the left.

The north section consists of a continuous wall that mirrors the design of the south side.
