Description
The Fife Folk Museum in Ceres includes two main structures.
The first is the Weigh House, also known as 'The Jougs', which dates back to the 17th century. This small building has a single-storey front and a full two-storey section at the back. It features one door and one window, constructed from rubble with a stone slate roof. The building has scrolled skewputts, and above the door is a panel depicting scales with the inscription 'God bless the just'. A pair of jougs hangs by the door.
The second structure consists of a pair of cottages located to the south of the Weigh House. These cottages are single-storey at the front and two-storey at the back. The northern cottage has two windows and a central door, with a reused lintel inscribed '17 AB MB 10', and is made of rubble with margins. The southern cottage has three windows and a door located between the first and second windows, also made of rubble but with droved dressings. It features a lean-to at the gable and an open lean-to pentice along the rear elevation of both buildings, which is a modern reconstruction. Both cottages have pantiled roofs.
