Description
32 and 36 Town End is a pair of cottages and a shop dating from the 17th century, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The buildings are constructed of coursed squared limestone, featuring ashlar dressings and quoins. They have a pantile roof with a stone gable stack and a brick ridge stack, along with a stone-coped gable that includes moulded kneelers. The structure is two storeys high and has an L-plan layout.
The south elevation consists of two bays, with a 20th-century shopfront that is divided into three sections by stone piers. Above the shopfront, there are two 2-light casement windows. The gable end on the west side shows the remains of two 17th-century 2-light mullioned windows, both of which are blocked, along with another blocked single light window above. The rear wing has a blind wall to the east and an irregular four-bay arrangement to the west, featuring sash windows, Yorkshire sashes, and 2-light casements. There are also two doorways with plain lintels. Inside, the cottages have exposed beams and a raised cruck truss in the rear wing.
