Description
Courthill Cottage is a later 18th century single-storey building that consists of two three-bay cottages. The eastern and rear walls are made of exposed rubble, while the other sides are rendered. The openings feature ashlar surrounds, and there is an ashlar eaves course and vertical margins on the eastern cottage.
On the southern elevation, the left cottage has three windows, a central door, and the right cottage has a single flanking window. There is a lean-to shed set back on the right side with a door to the left, and the inscription "17 IC 77" is above the door.
The western elevation has a plain gable with a whinstone outcrop projecting from the base. The northern elevation features a rear door to the western cottage, two small windows to the right, and two windows on the eastern cottage.
The eastern elevation includes a lean-to addition with a plain wall. The western cottage has four-pane timber sash and case windows, while the eastern cottage has ten-pane windows. Both cottages have timber and glazed doors. The roofs are pitched with replacement red tiles and a slated easing course, while the eastern lean-to has red clay pantiles. The raised skews feature scroll skewputts on the eastern cottage and beaked skewputts on the western cottage. There are coped gable end stacks and a central ridge stack with circular cans.
The interior was not seen in 2000.
