Description
The Scottish Lime Centre, located at 2 Rocks Road in Charlestown, is an early 19th-century single-storey, L-plan building that originally served as an estate workshop. The structure features rubble walls that are harled, with modern timber additions made in 2000 by Stephen Newsom.
On the east elevation, there is a timber section on the far left with a window, followed by a two-leaf door with inset glazing. To the right of this door is another door, with a window on the right flank. At the far right, there is a door with two windows to the left.
The south elevation has a window in the timbered gable end on the right. The north range of this elevation is symmetrical, featuring two central doors and three windows on both the left and right sides. There are remains of a wall extending from the southwest quoin.
On the west elevation, there is a door to the left in the gable wall, with a window to the left in the east wing. A timber section is set back to the right, accompanied by two windows.
The north elevation consists of a curved plain wall, with remains of a rubble wall at an angle to the right and a gatepier built into the wall at the left quoin.
The building has replacement fenestration, including timber sash and case windows and 12-paned casement windows. The doors are boarded timber. The north range has a pitched roof, while the east wing has a piended roof and the south side has a half piend. The roofs are covered with red clay pantiles, and there are coped gable end stacks on the north wing and a shouldered wallhead chimney on the east.
The interior was renovated in 2000.
