Description
This is a row of 19th-century cottages located at 3, 5, and 7 Pitlethie Road in Leuchars, known as 'Briar Cottage', 'The Anchorage', and 'Rose Cottage' respectively. The cottages were constructed using whin rubble with a slate roof. Three cottages have roughly squared stone dressings, five have dressed stone dressings, and two feature piended dormers. One of the cottages is dated 1810, inscribed with the initials "J B."
The buildings hold special value due to their proximity to the Romanesque section of the nearby church. Numbers 454, 457-60, and 463 from the original group have been either demolished or reconstructed.
The listing recognizes the cottages specifically for their group interest, and applies equally to the interior and exterior. In 2006, the cottages were re-categorized as Grade C(S) from Grade B.
